How We Met
Fletcher and Emily met in August 2008 in ENGL 201- American Lit at Liberty University. 3 days into the class, Fletcher (who Emily already thought was cute) turned around and introduced himself. According to Fletcher, Emily looked like a deer in headlights. Emily was shocked that the cute boy was talking to her. Emily was determined she was going to marry Fletcher by around the middle of September, but Fletcher's friends were trying to get him to go out with this other girl. Right after an outing with this other girl, Fletcher met Emily in the computer lab to study for an upcoming English test. They did study for about an hour and a half, and then they talked about themselves and their families for about 2 hours. The only other times they had talked prior to this were the 5 minutes before class, and the 5 minute walk to the parking lot after class. A few weeks later, Emily's plans for dinner with her friends fell through one night, so Fletcher invited her to go to the dining hall with his dorm. She went, and it was revealed that night that Emily had not seen "Dark Knight." Fletcher's friends found this unacceptable, so Eric told Fletcher to take her. When Emily got back to her house that night, she had a Facebook message from Fletcher saying he had purchased tickets to the 8:20 showing of Dark Knight for that weekend, and asked if she would meet him there. Neither of them had said the "date" word, so they were both a little confused as to what exactly this was. (Side note: Emily chewed the same piece of gum for more than 2 hours, because she didn't want to spit her gum out in front of Fletcher). After the movie, Fletcher walked Emily to her car, and they decided to go get coffee after church the next day. That coffee turned into sitting in the computer lab for 3 hours, just talking. This continued for a few more days, and then came time for Thanksgiving Break, during which they realized how much they missed each other. The next two weeks were filled with campus Christmas traditions, classes wrapping up, and finals, but Fletcher and Emily continued to meet and talk for hours at a time. On Tuesday, December 2, Emily offered Fletcher a ride back to his dorm as they were leaving the computer lab. Fletcher accepted, and as he was about to get out of the car to go to his dorm, he turned around, closed the door, and asked to turn the radio down. He proceeded to tell Emily that he was really enjoying hanging out with her, and wanted to talk about making this "more than a friendship" after Christmas break. Emily said she felt the same way...Fletcher was shocked. So, over Christmas break, they both maxed out their text messages and talked for more than 1400 minutes over those 4 weeks. When they got back to campus on January 10, 2009, Fletcher took Emily to the coffee shop, and officially asked her to be his girlfriend...she said yes...and 13 months later:
